Dungeon Master Java is a remake of the classic game Dungeon Master by FTL/Software Heaven. It is implemented entirely in Java, and is therefore able to run on any platform supporting Java version 1.4 or higher with an installed runtime environment (JRE or SDK). It is a stand-alone application, not a web-browser applet. The game features many original graphics that simulate a 3D environment. These were for the most part rendered in the free ray-tracer POV-Ray. Item graphics and character portraits are done by hand with a paint program, though many are enhanced versions of those taken from the original game and its sequels.
Gameplay is very similar to the original, with real-time action, 90-degree turns, and step-by-step movement. One major change from the original is that monsters are not "stuck" in groups: they are completely free to wander, sometimes occupying a square with other monsters and sometimes not.
Update 01.08.2010 - Version 2.0.4 released

Enter a universe of epic adventure! Master combat with hundreds of ships and thousands of weapons. You will clash with dark and mysterious enemy races. Engage in missions to help a crumbling republic, and restore peace to the Galaxy. Play Epoch Star, an epic space RPG adventure game for the PC.
Exit Fate is a new full-length RPG from SCF, creator of the well-received RPGMaker effort Last Scenario. The game not only features standard 2D battle encounters but boasts a tactical strategy mode as well, in which players must assume control over legions of troops, issue commands and lead their armies to a crushing victory. Bonus items are awarded for good results, especially if the fight ends quickly with minimal losses to your side.
A new addition is the bribe system, allowing players to avoid potentially dangerous encounters by using the local currency as a bargaining device. Use the C key to confirm your selections, or press the X key to cancel your choices.
The magic system is also a slight departure from most common RPGs. You earn mana points as the battle progresses, meaning that most spells can only be cast after several turns. The number of times a spell can be used in each battle is limited, but unused healing spells are cast automatically to restore the health of party members after battle.
Press the Left Alt and Enter key to switch between full screen and windowed mode. This game comes highly recommended if you're a big fan of RPGs, and wouldn't mind a couple of ripped sound effects, music and familiar-looking tilesets. (Source: Indie Games Weblog)

Last Scenario is a game made using the popular RPGMaker XP that could possibly rival Aveyond's level of professionalism, perhaps even surpass it. Tiles, music and sound effects are standard material that is included with the package, but most of the character portraits, sprites and backgrounds seen in this release were created by the developer.
The C key is used for most interactions and menu selections. Press the X key to access the inventory screen or to cancel any choices. A medium length RPG with over a thousand rooms, side quests, a unique spellcard system and even a collectible board game, it's quite unlikely that any fan would complete this production in a couple of sittings. Laxius Power - Random Story is a gigantic console type RPG. Even without including the various sidequests and secrets, Laxius Power has more than 50 hours of game play. The large number of areas which can be explored immediately, explored later, or ignored altogether make the game play seem somewhat nonlinear, a feat rarely accomplished in an RPG. The game includes several characters, multiple difficulty levels, and several sidequests.
A great sequel to one of the best freeware console-style RPGs, Laxius Power II is even larger and more polished than Laxius Power, the prequel which was already an epic-sized RPG. Everything that was great about the first game has been improved and magnified in this one: a bigger game world, more subquests, better graphics, and more interesting NPCs than the original. You can now control all 4 heroes of the saga, each of whom follows his or her own agenda throughout the game.
Laxius PowerIII - The Final Terror is the massive and spectacular conclusion to the epic trilogy of RPG Games. More open-ended than ever, featuring a whooping 200 hours of gameplay in this chapter, the Laxius Power saga brings you to one of the biggest worlds ever created in a free RPG. In this new installment, better than the 2 former ones to all regards, Random and his friends are engaged against ugly, gruesome creatures in atmospheric, creepy settings.
If you enjoy classic RPG like Final Fantasy 3/6 or Breath of Fire, you should definitely give a try to this game. On the other hand, if you're fond of open ended RPG with a strong linear feel like Morrowind, Daggerfall, Baldur's Gate or Might & Magic, do not miss Laxius Power 3 too! With amazing and stylished anime style characters, and huge exploration sequences in a vast world, this game should be a great experience.

NetHack is a single player dungeon exploration game that runs on a wide variety of computer systems, with a variety of graphical and text interfaces all using the same game engine. Unlike many other Dungeons & Dragons-inspired games, the emphasis in NetHack is on discovering the detail of the dungeon and not simply killing everything in sight - in fact, killing everything in sight is a good way to die quickly. Each game presents a different landscape - the random number generator provides an essentially unlimited number of variations of the dungeon and its denizens to be discovered by the player in one of a number of characters: you can pick your race, your role, and your gender.
Vulture in an isometric graphical interface for NetHack, Slash'EM and UnNetHack.

Privateer: Ascii Sector is a 100% free space combat/exploration/trading game for Windows, Mac OS X and Linux. You start with a simple spaceship and can then accept missions or trade goods to earn enough money to upgrade your ship or buy a new one. The game offers a wide variety of missions, commodities and ships -- a lot more than the original Wing Commander: Privateer, on which this game is based.
You can engage in deadly fights both in space and on the ground, and using the Privateer: Ascii Sector quest language, you can create your own stories in the Ascii Sector universe, or have fun with other players' stories.
What sets this game apart from most others is its 'graphics'. Privateer: Ascii Sector uses only ASCII characters in 16 different colors to present its environments. This might take some getting used to for most players, but it also means that the game's single designer and programmer can concentrate on gameplay instead of fancy graphics

Battleships Forever is a freeware tactical Real Time Strategy game that put's you in command of a small fleet of warships in space. Combat and damage mechanics are extremely detailed. Everything is simulated in game if possible. There are no abitrary "to hit chance" values in Battleships Forever. The game also features many innovative mechanics that you've never seen before. For example, the Cronus Battleship sports a Flux Shield generator that allows you to draw a defensive force shield around your ships in any shape you want. Another example are the Deflector modules that are used extensively through the game. These modules make a single section of a ship totally invulnerable to fire. This means that you will have to manoeuvre your ships to attack sections of the enemy ships not protected by Deflectors while keeping your own protected sections facing the enemy. Position is paramount!
Players will command picked fleets made up of Battleships, Destroyers and Patrol Craft. The completed game will include ten campaign missions and multiple skirmish modes.
Battleships Forever is inspired by and loosely based on Warning Forever by Hikoza.T.Ohkubo

Bos Wars is a futuristic real time strategy game (RTS). In a RTS game, the player has to combat his enemies while developing his war economy. Everything runs in real-time, as opposed to turn-based games where the player always has to wait for his turn. Bos Wars has a dynamic rate based economy. Energy is produced by power plants and magma gets pumped from hot spots. Buildings and mobile units are also built at a continuous rate. Control of larger parts of the map creates the potential to increase your economy throughput. Holding key points like roads and passages allow for different strategies.
It is possible to play against human opponents over LAN, internet, or against the computer. Bos Wars successfully runs under Linux, MS Windows, BSD, and Mac OS X.
Bos Wars aims to create a completely original and fun open source RTS game.

Noctis (Latin for "of the night") is an open source computer space flight simulator remarkable for the program's small size (under 1 MiB) as well as the vast size of the imaginary galaxy modelled by it.
More specifically, Noctis is a space simulation in which the player takes on the role of an explorer in a spacecraft called a Stardrifter. No goal or measure of success is imposed by the game: it simply allows the player to explore a fictional galaxy (of a realistic size) and catalogue their findings in a shared database of names known as the GUIDE (for stars, planets and moons). Since the player in the game is manifested as a physical being, the exploration involves travelling between stars, refuelling the Stardrifter from Lithium ion-ejecting stars, approaching planets in star systems and their moons, and even exploring the surfaces of worlds whose environments allow landing. Many planets feature atmospheres and weather effects. Some contain plants and animals, or even mysterious ruins. Stars, planets and moons can all be named and annotated (in a GUIDE, see below) for future reference, through an in-game computer interface inside the Stardrifter.
In the game's sci-fi setting, a fleet of Stardrifters was left behind by a race of sentient cats known as Felysians who abandoned their home world (planet Felysia, star system Balastrackonastreya) long ago for unknown reasons. The Felysians were the only sentient beings in the Noctis galaxy, so there are none to find in the Noctis game.

Orbiter is a real-time 3D space flight simulator for the Windows PC. The concept is similar to traditional flight simulator software, but you are not limited to atmospheric flight. Orbiter allows you to experience manned and unmanned space flight missions from the pilot's perspective. Take control from launch to orbtial insertion, rendezvous with space stations, deploy and recapture satellites, and re-enter and land on a planetary surface. The playground is our solar system, and you can even execute missions to the moon or other planets. (Time compression is available to shorten long cruise phases.) Orbiter accurately models the physics of spaceflight, which makes it possible to either recreate historic missions, or use it as a sandbox for futuristic spacecraft concepts.

Rigs of Rods (also known as RoR), is a truck, car, airplane and boat simulator. You can drive, fly or sail in total freedom in an open environment. What makes RoR different to most simulators is its unique soft-body physics: vehicles chassis and wheels are simulated in real-time as flexible objects, giving the simulation an extremely accurate behavior, while allowing the vehicles to be simply specified by their structural composition, as a network of interconnected nodes (forming the chassis and the wheels). Crashing into walls or terrain can permanently deform a vehicle in a realistic manner. In addition to its unique soft-body physics, RoR also features an advanced flight model based on blade element theory, allowing the accurate simulation of any airplane, base on their physical dimensions and wing airfoils. It also features an accurate buoyancy model based on elemental pressure gradients, enabling boats with complex hulls to move realistically in the swell.
Rigs of Rods is an amateur game developped by Pierre-Michel Ricordel, aka Pricorde, and is a one man hobby development, with a $0 budget, that has started more than two years ago and is still continuing. Recently a second developer, Thomas, has joined the "team". He is also the donator and caretaker of the web sites. A growing community has build up since some time and has contributed many vehicles to the game.

Simutrans is a freeware and open-source transportation simulation game that runs under Windows, Linux, BeOS on PC, and OS X on Intel based Macs.
In Simutrans you can build the transport networks you always dreamed of, with platforms, quays, level crossings, bridges, tunnels, signals and much more. Transport passengers between nearby cities with a commuter train or use a high speed train to earn big money by connecting cities further apart.
You can choose from a large amount of trains including steam, diesel and electric engines, along with multiple units - each with a different properties. Fleet of ships and ferries, buses, trams, trolley buses, trucks, and planes are at your daily disposal. More exotic ways of transport include monorails and maglevs.
Make your own bus system, transporting people throughout the city and lay out new bus routes to make cities grow. Watch your cities really come alive with trucks driving around carrying all kinds of goods. Supply the bookstore with new books and watch out, the Car Seller has almost run out of new cars! Be sure that the furniture factory has enough wood. Oops, the materials wholesaler has just sold his last planks, be quick to buy a new truck to strengthen out that route!
Connect all kinds of industries with each other, the Power Plant needs coal to run. The Refinery gets its supplies from either an Oil Field or an Oil Rig, and produces plastics which allow new cars required by the Car Seller to be built, and gasoline that is sold in gas stations to make those cars run. More of these industry chains are built in this incredible simulation.
Simutrans-Experimental has been developed to provide additional features not found in Simutrans-Standard, and also to modify some existing features to change the overall balance of the game. The emphasis is on economic and operational realism, improving the gameplay balance, increasing variety, and making the game more challenging in the later stages (where, in Simutrans-Standard, it can be very easy), and less challenging in the earlier stage (where, in Simutrans-Standard, it can be very hard): in other words, to have a longer, smoother learning curve.
Update 12.03.2011 - Simutrans Version 110.0.1 released

Steel Panthers: World at War is a tactical level, World War II era, historical wargame by Matrix Games. This is a very highly refined version of Steel Panthers III, placed in the Steel Panthers I game scale. We used Steel Panthers III since it was the most stable version of the game engine yet created. The original game series was designed by Gary Grigsby, Keith Brors and Joel Billings. SP:WaW is a hex based, top down view, alternating turn ("I go, you go" or IGOUGO) game design. SP:WaW also includes a timed play feature, giving each player a specific amount of time to conduct his turn before it ends and his opponent's turn begins. Armor, gun and vehicle units are represented by individual icons. Each infantry squad can have up to 25 men in it. Machine guns, mortars and artillery units are also realisticaly portrayed and crewed. Each hex represents 50 yards (meters) of the virtual battlefield, with many new terrain features added. Each game turn represents a few minutes of real time, and games can last from a few turns to entire campaigns.
WinSPWW2 and WinSPMBT are tactical level wargames based on the code for the game Steel Panthers 2 released by SSI in 1996. WinSPWW2 covers the years 1930-1946 and WinSPMBT covers 1946-2020. Both games utilise hexagon-based maps and are alternating turn based (I go you go or IGOUGO) design.) One unit playing piece represents one vehicle or gun, or an infantry squad (section of up to 19 men in winSPWW2 and 13 men in WinSPMBT) or a section of 1 to 4 support weapons. One game hexagon represents 50 yards/metres of terrain. One game move (player 1 turn plus player 2 turn) represents roughly 3 minutes of 'real time'.

In the 22nd century, colony ships were programmed to search for earthlike planets along trajectories calculated to visit stars with the best likelihood of habitable worlds. One such ship with its crew and passengers in cryostasis traveled over 2300 light years before a suitable planet was found. Hope is a temperate world located in the Glory system on the edge of a vast nebula often referred to as the Purple Void. The nebula is unique in that it contains many unusual star types and other peculiar phenomena.
Over 100 years have passed since the colonists first arrived. It is a new beginning of deep space exploration. Technology has improved and mankind is no longer dependent on slow cryoships and robot probes. This is the setting of Strange Adventures In Infinite Space.

It's an instant space opera with starship combat, deep space exploration, ship and flotilla customization, lifeform and artifact hunting, friends and foes (most of whom are disgusting aliens), a randomized "universe" so every game session is different --all playable during a lunch break, hence the tagline Explore the Galaxy in 20 Minutes or Less!

Soviet Unterzögersdorf (pronounced "oon-taa-tsee-gars-doorf") is the last existing appanage republic of the USSR. The enclave maintains no diplomatic relationship with the surrounding so-called "Republic of Austria" or with the Fortress "European Union". The downfall of her motherland -- the Soviet Union -- in the early 1990s had a particularly bad effect on the country's economic situation.
It is a great challenge to secure survival for the small but proud confederation. External reactionary forces put the country in danger. It's a lack of respect due to a morally corrupted and perhaps even non-existing unity of the peoples. The goal of a glorious future is almost unreachable.
But there are a handful of people who don't give up on a vision for a better tomorrow. Let us tell you the stories of the brave citizens in the beautiful little country of Soviet Unterzögersdorf.

America's Army is popular online 3D action (propaganda) game commissioned by US army. It provides players with the most authentic military experience available, from exploring the development of Soldiers in individual and collective training to their deployment in simulated missions in the War on Terror.
Cube is the original game that started it all. Though it has been surpassed in almost every way by Cube 2, it is a game in its own right. Most importantly, it comes with over 100 (!) maps, most of which are not available in Cube 2, with extensive single and multi player content.
Cube is also smaller in every way, in download, in hardware requirements (runs well on older video cards!), and in source code (the absolutely tiny code base is a very easy start for those wishing to experiment).
It also has some unique engine features such as the high precision dynamic occlusion culling, and its heighfield based level format.
Free single and multi player 1st person shooter game with some satisfying fast oldskool gameplay. A large variety of gameplay modes from classic SP to fast 1 on 1 MP and objective based teamplay, with a great variety of original maps to play on.
Level editing has never been so much fun: a press of a key allows you to modify the geometry / textures / entities in-game, on the fly. Even more novel, you can make maps together with others online, in the unique "coop edit" mode (!)
The engine, though designed for simplicity and elegance as opposed to feature & eyecandy checklists, still competes nicely thanks to its novel "6-directional heighfield deformable cube octree" world structure that is the basis for its in-game editing. Occlusion culling, pixel & vertex shaders, very accurate lightmapping, robust custom physics system, network system, models, sound, scripting...
Death Rally is a top-down perspective racing video game developed by Remedy, published by Apogee and distributed by GT Interactive. It was released on September 6, 1996. In the game, which some people say was widely praised as one of the best games of the year, the player starts with $495 in their pocket and a lowly car named Vagabond (based on the VW Beetle), and must compete in deadly races where all cars are armed, and win money by finishing top, collecting money bonus or fulfilling missions. The final goal is defeating the Adversary, the undisputed king of Death Rally. In 2009 Remedy re-released the game as freeware. Game has also been ported to Windows (being DOS game originally) and runs on Windows XP SP3, Vista or Windows 7 (32-bit or 64-bit).
