Kerikeri
Orewa
We had planned to ride through Auckland and way out to the Coromandel. We aimed to go around the East Cape, but since it was Sunday, and we had had trouble with the bike, we had to spare our Monday for taking the bike to Holeshot's in Auckland, and also had to bury our East Cape plans. So we reserved a room from Pillows Lodge in Orewa just north of Auckland. We had read a lots of positive comments of Pillows lodge.
From Kerikeri we rode to Paihia where we reserved the Interislander ferries, and bought the awfully expensive ferry tickets. I hate all the monopolies that can determine such prices. Luckily we got the first tickets for economy price, since it was a night ferry. We took some gas and found that the right passenger footpeg was loose. The nut was just between the peg body and the shaft drive. Any of the service station's tools did not fit to that place. We managed to tighten it little, but not totally.
From Paihia we rode to Opua, where we took a ferry to Russel coastal road. Yet another "not for rental vehicles" road. Gravel, no protective rails and deep drops. Astounding sceneries, that we could look for a long time, since on such road the average speed won't rise too high.
In Whangarei we visited the Whangarei falls, and then continued to Orewa. Before going to sleep, we had a barefeet evening walk on the beach.
