-"It's great to study with youth from different culturies in so marvelous landscape", says Lena Shcherbina who has arrived to Rantasalmi from Petrozavodsk university.
Linnansaari, Olavinlinna, lakes with islands has made great impression to Shcherbina. In summer high school teachings flown in to mind like waves to beach rocks, unnoticed repeating and smoothing.
Shcherbinan thinks that fellow students and teachers friendlines and readines to conversation has been wonderful. Only downside she sees short time of summer high school.
-"Voi, this ends already this week. I would like to be at least month longer. But I have to come again" Shcherbina states.
Rantasalmi international summer high school is fourth in row. Education arranged by Institute of Environmental Education takes part 28 young people from Russia, Italy and Finland.
Main theme is Sense of place, what is dealt through mathematics, art, geology, internet and dendrokronology. Studying language is English to improve language abilities.
Headmaster is professor Scott Lewis from Washington university as he has been summers before too. Stipend period ten years ago and living in Parkumäki village made Scott friend of Rantasalmi forever.
-"In summer high school we spend time together talking and learning. It's really fun to work with youngsters who are willing to get knowledge" professor-headmaster says.
Summer high school is part of European naturecentres action. If funding is arranged, next three year period is arranged in theme of landscape in Rantasalmi.
Mecchia Michela from Italy took part exams in spring at her own school where was chosen students who go to Finland. Maiden thinks that she was really lucky because she passed that test and was able to go.
-"I have been very pleased. Most interesting course here has been nature interpretation to evolution based on field work."
-"I have always been very interested in ekology and biology and in summer high school my view has widen much" Michela tells.
Roberto Corona is most interented in internet.
-"I find information about everything possible from internet and I'm albe to get familiar with every culture on world. I also like it effect of bringing closer. Where ever you are you are still right next to me" youth think.
Lunch company of those to, Alice Rainis thinks high school best issue developning of English skills.
-"New things, literature, nature and people are forwarded through conversation. Sometimes comes difficult words, but I have managed well."
-"In Finland most amazing thing is brightness. It has made great impression to me. Also general cleanliness I have noticed" Rainis admires.
Side of Finnish youth have been pleased to spirit of togetherness and great headmaster. Johanna Vasara from Rantasalmi, Marjo Himanen from Mikkeli and Jarkko Kolehmainen from Sulkava have noticed that shyness has dissappeared and group welded together.
-"In the beginning representatives of different countries were in own groups, but when time has gone have groups mixed up. Now we are all friends with everyone and surely we miss each other after this time."
-"Speaking English to get confidence and building vocabulary is great. And our headmaster is wonderful. Scott speaks with everyone and is interested our things."
-"And then headmaster teaches us new words and difficult things so that we don't even notice it. And suddenly we realize how wonderful thing stuck in our heads" three Finnish descripes their experiences.
After summer high school youth says that they sleep their sleeping dept and recharges strenght before next school year starts.
