In general, the following keys perform standard functions within Backup: Tab Moves the cursor to the next area within a dialog box. Shift-Tab Moves the cursor to the previous area within a dialog box. Arrow key Moves the cursor to the closest item or button in the direction of the arrow. When in a text box, use RightArrow and LeftArrow to move the cursor one character to the left or right. When in a list box, use UpArrow and DownArrow to move the cursor within the list. NOTE: To move the cursor out of a list box, use Tab. When in a menu, use RightArrow and LeftArrow to open another menu. Use UpArrow and DownArrow to move the cursor between menu items. Hotkey Most commands and options in dialog boxes have a character which appears highlighted or in a contrasting color. These letters are called hotkeys, and can be used to select the item. To quickly select an item on the screen which contains a hotkey, press the hotkey letter. In some cases you have to hold down the Alt key to activate a hotkey. If you press Enter, this button will be activated regardless of the current cursor location. Choosing a Command Button:  Place the mouse pointer on the button and click with the left or right mouse button. When you select a title button, a dialog box is opened that contains a group of options. Title buttons differ from other buttons in that the hotkey which activates the button is in the Title above the button. Also, the current setting is shown on the button. In Backup, list boxes are used to display disk, directory and file names. Mouse Tips:  Scroll rapidly through a list by holding the left mouse button down, and moving the mouse pointer up or down through the list.  Select multiple items by holding the right mouse button down, and moving the mouse pointer up or down. All items selected in this way will change to the state of the first item in the group. For example, if the first item is selected then all items are selected. If the first item is deselected, then all items are deselected.  Scroll the list by clicking the scroll bar arrows.  Move the list by clicking and dragging the slider box.  Move the list a page up or down by clicking the mouse pointer in the scroll bar above or below the slider box. Keyboard Tips:  Tab will move the cursor into and out of a list box.  Select items in a list box with Spacebar. Selected items are toggled on and off with Spacebar.  In a list box, move the cursor directly to the item you want by starting to type the name of the item. For example, typing "P" would move the cursor to the first item that begins with P, and typing "Pe" would move to the first item that begins with Pe. ž Check Boxes Appear as squares within a dialog box, and are used to toggle options on or off. The text next to a check box describes the option which can be on or off. If you see a checkmark (ū) in the check box, then the option is turned on. If no checkmark appears in the box, the option is turned off. For example: [ū] High Resolution - 300dpi In this example, the option is turned on and printer output will be High Resolution. To select or deselect a check box option:  Click the item with the mouse.  Or, press the hotkey for the item. The configurable featuresare: ž Double-Click Speed Double-clicking is a term used to describe the clicking of a mouse button twice in succession. This option allows you to configure the amount of time between the two mouse clicks. Slow double-clicking means the mouse button can be pressed twice slowly in succession, while the fast setting requires a short interval of time between clicks. ž Sensitivity The sensitivity of the mouse sets how quickly the mouse cursor moves on the screen relative to the mouse movement on your desk. Low sensitivity means that the cursor will move in small increments, while high sensitivity means that it will move in larger increments. The Default setting leaves the mouse sensitivity configured as it is before Backup is started. Changes to the mouse sensitivity will take effect immediately, to let you try them out. ž Acceleration The mouse can use two sensitivity levels: one level for when the mouse is moving slowly and another for when the mouse is moving more quickly. The acceleration determines the point at which the sensitivity changes. Higher mouse acceleration causes the mouse pointer to move further across the screen with less mouse movement when the mouse is moved quickly. The Default setting leaves the mouse acceleration configured as it is before Backup is started. Changes to the mouse acceleration will take effect immediately, to let you try them out. ž Left-Handed Mouse The functions of the left and right mouse buttons can be switched to accommodate a left-handed person. The left button is the primary button used by a right-handed person. A left-handed person can set the mouse so that the right button is the primary button. ž Hard Mouse Reset Normally, this option should not be checked. Sector not found This is a disk error.  Printer out of paper Check the printer.  Write fault MS-DOS cannot write to a device. Check your formatting and the condition of the media.  Read fault MS-DOS cannot read from a device. Check the formatting and the condition of the media.  General failure You may have left the drive door open or forgotten to insert a diskette.
