In the early days the VISA was not the success the company had expected it to be. For that reason the company decided to prove the quality and reliability of the car by organising the so-called "Trophée Visa International" programme together with TOTAL in 1981. This programme was intended for the 1982 competition year.
Citroën invited some companies to create a car for this class by using the VISA Super X as the basis. The result was a number of very special and aggressive looking VISAs. (See Other-Visas)
Eventually a design was choosen that looked very much like the normal car and was very easy to service. It was offcially named "Visa Trophée" and it was homologated as a Group B car of which 200 cars were built in total. (class up to 1300cc)
Like normal production VISAs, it had front wheel drive and was a great hit not only in France but also in the UK where it was used successfully and in Holland where the Dutch dealer team won a lot of victories with this car. (They had 2). Starting with about 100hp out of a 1299cc engine the tuning of the car kept evolving until the end where the engine developed over 150hp from this fragile small block.
The 2 cars used in Holland are still in Citroën loving hands and participate in historical rallies. The UK used car was sold to a Citroën fan in Finland.
Among members of the French Visa Chrono club some Trophée's can also be found.
