This story of tuned BX Sport is written by Bruno Huyghe. The owner of this BX is called as "the guy" or "he" in this story because we don't want to tell his name.

The guy is used to tune cars, it's his hobby. He bought a BX Sport and was happy with it until the engine blown at around 140.000 km. Therefore he decided to improve the car, according to his will. He found a BX 19 GTi 16 Valves and mixed the two cars. This project took 2 years to complete...

Mechanics:

He explained me that this kind of things can be done on the 16 valves engine because they are hardened by the manufacturer, so the engine can cope with power.
To his knowledge, the original BX Sport engines are not hardened and then would not support high increase of power (for example big Weber carburators would greatly shorten the lifespan of this engine).

To get more torque there is too possibilities:
get a 2l 16v turbo engine (like the 205 Peugeot Turbo 16) but they are very very rare,
or put 2 pcs Weber carburators on the 16v engine (with Renault 5 Alpine entries because they seems to be the only possible link between the Webers and the 16v engine).

With such a power he needs better brakes, so he picked up the one of the 16v and adapted them on the BX Sport chassis, including the ABS system!!

He enlarged the "track distance" of the car by cutting the previous brake disks and used them as enlarger! So the wheels (nice aren't they?) fit perfectly without (or almost) having to cut the fiber fittings of BX Sport.
For the wheels also, he managed to find the wheel centers with chevrons, so don't try to buy these wheels at a citroen dealer!

Then the guy lowered the car. The most effective way is to make a new "index" for the lever controlling the height of the car.
In the lowered position, the top speed of the car is around 250km/h.

The exhaust have been modified so 2 exhausts visible and working
(one for 2 cylinders)....... very nice work (sorry I've not scanned all the photos yet !)

Shape:

  • mirrors (from the 16v)
  • front lights (from a 505 Peugeot....... are not the Citroen accessories)
  • a plate below the front bumper
  • special bond for the hood (because he loosed it once on a racetrack!)
  • holes in the rear bumper for the exhaust
  • hole in the hood with a home made Citroen chevrons
  • and a hell of number of paint and varnish.
