Finnkino Oy has finally published Edvin Laine's Tuntematon sotilas (1955) on DVD. You can find info about it (in Finnish) here: http://www.dvdkotelo.com/tuntematonsotilas.htm
Here's a short version in English about that information:
Details - Region 0, 2 h 49 min, 1.33:1 Letterbox, Dolby Digital 1.0, subtitles in Swedish, English and Finnish
Extras - A documentary by Finnish defensive forces: Front patrol fighting on a sea and some material from YLE's archives (sound material recorded during the war time).
I couldn't find yet the DVD from Amazon or any other English sites, so if you are willing to buy it, Finnish contacts may be the only way.
One way to order it from Finland: go to http://www.leffat.com (I haven't heard a bad word about this site. They have their site both in Finnish and Swedish. You can change the language clicking on country flags. The following instructions has been made with the Finnish version.)
1. Click the "Liity jäseneksi" button on left in the window to register. Don't be afraid, soon you'll see also translations in English.
2. Fill up the fields. Your password and username has to contain at least 6 characters. When you've done, click "Eteenpäin".
3. They have to know where to send your shoppings, so fill also the next form (your name, address etc.). All fields with * must be filled. When you've done, click "Jatka". (Note: if you can't get any further, you may have used characters that are not allowed - for example points - in some fields. Remove them.)
4. In the next form you don't have to do anything else but click "Jatka". Note: You can tell your birth date (Syntymävuosi), profession (Ammatti) and branch (Toimiala) _if you want_. This information is not necessary. They just want to know in which group you belong so they can send ads to you...
5. If everything went right, www.leffat.com welcomes you now on their site. Click "Pääsivulle".
6. You're now logged in www.leffat.com. There's a field on upper right in the window. Type "Tuntematon sotilas" (without " marks) into it and click "Hae".
7. You should see now the result of the search. Click on the name of the film.
8. You're now in the movie information window. "Julkaisupäivä" means the release date, "Varastossa" tells you if they have the product in their stock ("Ei" = no) and "Arvioitu toimitusaika" shows you how many days it may take to deliver the product to you. You can see the price above them (27 € when I last checked). If you want to order the product, click the "Tilaa" button. Note: although the film info doesn't say it the film has also English subtitles.
9. You have now the product on your list. If you're willing to buy also other disks from www.leffat.com, you can do it now. Otherwise click the "Kassalle" button (lower in the window).
10. You're going to use secured connection. Paying with a credit card is safe there. Click OK.
11. Select now the way to pay. ("Postiennakko" means collect on delivery. So, it's possible to pay "in cash" too. You can read more about in here: http://www.posti.fi/vanhat/english/ ). If you have VISA/Mastercard select that option and click the little right arrow.
12. Now, fill up the fields. "Luottokorttinumero" means your credit card number. "Voimassaoloaika" means its period of validity (month & year). "Kortin tunnus" means the sign (livery?) of the card. Click the little right arrow again. Note: if you'll get a message "Luottokortti ei ole enää voimassa" it means your credit card is too old.
13. The end (remember to take down "Tilausnro" - ordering number)... If you have anything to ask about ordering etc. Please follow the next instructions:
14. Log out by clicking "Poistu" (below the company logo).
1. (If you're not registered, first register into www.leffat.com - check out the parts 1-5 in the instructions above. If you're logged out and you can't see the text "Tervetuloa YOUR NAME HERE!" below the site logo, click "Sisään" and type your username and password in the fields.)
Click the "Info & palaute" button on left.
2. If you want to ask about product details, click "Yhteydenotot koskien tuotteita...". If you have something to ask about the ordering, click "Kysymyksiä tilauksista". If you've faced an error, click "Virheilmoitukset".
3. The forms are pretty much similar. Here's how to fill a "Kysymyksiä tilauksista" form. In the field "Viesti" you'll write your message. If you'll want the company contact to you, click "Kyllä" (= yes). If you've already ordered a product, type it's ordering number into field "Tilausnro". Your custom number ("Asiakasnumero"), name ("Nimi"), email address ("Sähköposti") and phone number ("Puhelinnumero") should be already there. If not, fill also these fields. Click "Lähetä" to send your message.
